# Manage Approval Policies and Sla Policies

## What This Does

This guide explains when to use approval policies and SLA policies and how they support automation.

## Approval Policies

Use approval policies when a work item must be reviewed or approved before moving forward.

### Steps

1. Open `Automation`.
2. Open `Approval Policies`.
3. Create a new policy.
4. Select the subject type.
5. Choose approver roles.
6. Define minimum approvers.
7. Set auto-approve timing if your process allows it.
8. Save the policy.

## Sla Policies

Use SLA policies when response or completion time needs to be tracked and escalated.

### Steps

1. Open `Automation`.
2. Open `SLA`.
3. Create a new SLA policy.
4. Select the target type.
5. Select the priority if applicable.
6. Set target and warning thresholds.
7. Choose the escalation role.
8. Save the policy.

## What Happens Next

These policies can then be referenced by automation rules and operational workflows.
